A missing Japanese man has been found languishing in an Afghan jail.
The man, a journalist, was found in the jail in Baghlan province after a tip-off from locals.
Kosuke Tsuneoka, 40, had apparently been heading for Kunduz in northern Afghanistan when he was jailed by local authorities.
The Afghan Interior Ministry has said it does not know whey he was incarcerated, although he did not have a valid journalists visa.
A spokesman said the ministry was not even aware of his presence in Afghanistan.
It is believed a Taliban commander in the area may have seized the journalist and had him locked up for his own safety.
